Director of Congregational Learning -- Judy Jaffe
Judith Kuper Jaffe has spent 30 years in Jewish education as a teacher, b’nai mitzvah tutor, family educator, and youth adviser.
Before coming to Shomrei Emunah as its first director of congregational learning in 2007, she was principal of Beth Am Temple Religious School in Pearl River, N.Y., for six years.
Judy was raised in Manhattan and attended the Ramaz School. She is a graduate of Syracuse University, where she earned a B.S. in mass communications from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and a B.A. in history from the Maxwell School of Public Affairs. She received a master’s in Jewish studies from Fairleigh Dickinson University and was licensed as a principal by the National Board of License for Teachers and Principals in Jewish Schools in North America.
Judy views education as a lifelong, perpetual endeavor. She was a participant in a multi-year leadership program run by the Jewish Theological Seminary and Hebrew Union College that was aimed at reimagining Jewish education in synagogues. She won the 5765 Behrman House Award from the National Association of Temple Educators in 2005. And more recently she has participated in Storahtelling and the Panim Institute’s Jewish service-learning training.
She and her husband, Andy, live in River Edge, N.J. They have two adult daughters.
