Jewish Learning Center
The dirty little secret of American Jewish education is how enormously challenging it is to achieve the task we set for ourselves: teaching modern Hebrew and siddur Hebrew, familiarizing students with Torah and the essential liturgy, instilling a love and knowledge of Jewish traditions, culture and history, and inspiring and motivating students to practice Jewish rituals as their own and to live according to our values and ethics.
Yet Shomrei Emunah’s Hebrew school, the Jewish Learning Center, takes up that challenge with gusto, meeting it with an uncommonly robust, holistic and stimulating program of study for children at every level, from pre-K through seventh grade and bar and bat mitzvah preparation.
Our dedicated, award-winning teachers and staff work with and motivate our students in countless ways: in and out of the classroom, in conjunction with family activities or Shabbat services, through field trips or guest speakers, and with a variety of community service projects. Even as they are learning to become full-fledged members of the Jewish community, our youngsters and their many projects never fail to set an inspiring example for the grown-up members of our congregation.
Of course, as in any educational program, the overall success of the J.L.C. and of each of our students depends heavily upon the enthusiastic cooperation and participation of parents and caregivers. We look forward to working closely with you as your children reach Hebrew-school age, and to helping you help your children reach their fullest potential.
