Rabbi E. Noach Shapiro
has been the rabbi of Shomrei Emunah since August 1, 2004. Rabbi Shapiros vision of
the role of a congregational rabbi is to lead a community in transforming a
synagogue from a 'Beit Hak'nesset', a place where people gather, to a 'Kehilla
Kedosha, a sacred community defined by mitzvot, compassion, commitment, Torah, and
celebration.
Prior to his coming to Shomrei Emunah, Rabbi Shapiro had been a rabbi at Ahavath Achim
Synagogue in Atlanta, Georgia, a 1700 member congregation, for 5 years. He began there as
assistant Rabbi, was promoted to associate Rabbi and then to acting senior Rabbi.
Rabbi Shapiro grew up in Manhattan. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a
B.A. in Psychology. After traveling extensively in the South Pacific and Southeast Asia,
he moved to California where he was a counselor for troubled adolescents for several
years. He received a masters of Hebrew letters and was ordained at the Jewish
Theological Seminary in New York.
Rabbi Shapiro served as president of the Atlanta Rabbinical Association and as co-chair of
the Interfaith Activities Committee of the American Jewish Committee. He was a founding
member of the Faith Alliance of Metro Alliance. He served on the Board of Trustees for the
Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, the Southeast Regional American Jewish Committee,
Planned Parenthood of Atlanta, and of the Solomon Schechter/Epstein School of Atlanta.
Rabbi Shapiro is married to Monica Rawicz and they have four children: Eliana, Ziva, Eran
and Hallel.
