Our Staff

Office Assistant -- Galia Shahin

Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Galia moved to the United States with her parents, when she was 17 years old. The family settled in Bayside, New York. She graduated Queens College with a major in psychology. Galia and her husband, Zahi, have two sons and live in Whitestone, Queens.

Galia's background includes teaching Hebrew School at the Bay Terrace Jewish Center. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, spending time with her family and visiting Israel. We are delighted to have Galia at Shomrei. Her skills and her friendliness enhance our office.

Senior Custodian -- Jorge Moreno

A fixture of the Shomrei Emunah staff since 1995, Jorge Moreno is an indispensable, reliable and ever-helpful member of the Shomrei community. 

Born in Colombia, he emigrated to the United States in 1978 with his wife, Linbania, and one of their two grown sons. They settled in Union City, N.J.

A soccer and basketball player as a young man, Jorge, now a grandfather, still enjoys watching sports on television.

When not on duty at Shomrei, he works with his wife at her housekeeping jobs.We all benefit from Jorge’s special attention to our congregation’s needs.

 Custodian -- Carlos Rymer

Born in the Dominican Republic, Carlos came to the United States when he was 14 years old with his mother and two sisters. They settled in Union City, New Jersey where he still lives. Carlos attended the Roosevelt School and he graduated from Union City High School

Carlos enjoys playing basketball and hanging out with his friends. He has an adorable daughter, Dahianna, who is 3 years old.
