| Worship Services
Our synagogue is an affiliate
of the Conservative Movement. Our Rabbi Noach Shapiro leads services on Fridays,
Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. Our cantor participates in leading services about
twice each month. Along with our rabbi and cantor, congregants daven, read Torah and
participate in all aspects of worship, including congregant-led services.
Congregation Shomrei Emunah is
committed to an egalitarian approach; men and women play an integral role in all our
services.
Weekly Services at
Shomrei
Friday Evening
Our Kabbalat Shabbat Service This is a
brief service with no oneg so that you can attend services before Shabbat dinner. Check
our full calendar for start time.
Taste of Shabbat is a once-a-month (more often during
summer months) casual service and pot-luck dinner in a congregants home. This is a
warm and informal way to begin Shabbat and get together with other members of the Shomrei
community. The evening starts with a Meet and Shmooze time followed, by a
Kabbalat Shabbat Service and then dinner. Its helpful to call the host family
to RSVP so that they know how many people are coming and that food is on the way. Feel
free, however, to come, even if you did not RSVP. Contact the office for location and
check our full calendar for start time.
Our monthly Shabbat Experience for Families with
Young Children offers a meaningful Shabbat experience with singing and prayer for children
aged 7 years and younger with their families. The program starts at 5:30 pm and includes
dinner as well as the service. The cost for the dinner is $15 for adults and $8 for
children. Children younger than age 2 are free.
NEW - On the same Fridays as the Shabbat
Experience, a Shomrei family will host an 8:00 pm Kabbalat Shabbat service at their home.
There will be an oneg following the service, with desserts provided by the host family.
This later Friday night service was very popular over the summer and that's why we're
continuing it. If you didn't try it then, why not try it now? It's a great way to spend
time with fellow members of the Shomrei community.
Shabbat Morning
Our Traditional Shabbat Morning Service is held every
week at 9:30 am in the main sanctuary (except when we have a Learning Service and the
Traditional Service is held in the Youth Activity Lounge)
Adults and children of all ages are welcome to our
monthly Learning Service (aka Family Service) at 10:30 am in the main sanctuary. The
Learning Service has lots of singing, prayers in English as well as Hebrew, and an
interactive Torah activity. This service is for children and adults of all ages who want
to become more familiar with the Shabbat liturgy and offers an opportunity to participate
in ways that you have never done before or havent done in a long time - for instance
by leading a portion of the service, chanting the prayers before and after the Torah
portion, reading from the Torah. A truly wonderful Kiddush follows services.
Shomrei offers a Young Childrens Service once a
month at 11:00 am on Saturday morning. Like the Friday night service, this monthly program
offers a meaningful Shabbat experience with singing and prayer for children aged 7 years
and younger with their families.
Our monthly Junior Congregation Service also starts
at 11:00 am and is geared for our JLC children aged 7 and older. Parents are welcome to
attend with their child.
Saturday Afternoon.
Shalom Services - All are welcome to participate in Shomrei Emunahs Monthly
Shalom Service on selected Shabbat mornings.
This alternative Service is designed to nourish ones spiritual self in
various ways including yoga, meditation, experiential prayer, singing, and Torah study.
The purpose of the service is found in its name, shalom, in that it will
facilitate for the participants a peaceful connection to Shabbat, our community and
ones inner self. Attend all
or any part of the service that you would like:
