Social Action
And God spoke to Moses, saying: "Tell the
children of Israel to bring me an offering; you shall accept offerings for me from every
person whose heart moves them (to give). (Exodus 25:1-2)
Around the same time that the Israelites received the
Torah, they also received instructions to build a place of worship that they could carry
with them in their travels. This structure was to be the dwelling place of God's
presence. God's first commandment concerning this dwelling place was that the entire
community be invited to participate in its construction.
Congregation Shomrei Emunah seeks to build in our community a dwelling place in which
God's presence may reside. We do that through our traditional value of Tikkun Olam,
repairing the world. Please look in our weekly
flyer or weekly cyberletter for opportunities to
give the "offering"; to take part in social action, which comes from YOUR heart,
towards the construction of a better world.
Among the programs in which Congregation Shomrei Emunah is involved are:
1. Darfur
2. Bone Marrow Donors
3. Organ Donation
4. Stem Cell Research
5. Coat Drive
6. Work Clothes Drive
7. Prom Dress Drive

Join the Mensch Squad!
Chesed means "kindness" and "love." As a basic tenet of our tradition,
it is an expectation that we perform acts of loving kindness as often as we can.
So, the Mensch Squad of Shomrei Emunah helps take people to doctors, shop for families who
have just had babies, cook meals for people who have had an operation, help with shiva
minyans, and many more things. Many of us have already experienced the generosity of our
community, having received or given assistance and support.
We are reaching out to everyone if you would like to volunteer to help - and also to
remind everyone not to be shy, and to ask when you need something.
